Wrexham FC have signed an agreement which will secure their future at the Racecourse Ground for the next 10-15 years it was revealed today.

Glyndwr University Vice Chancellor, Michael Scott, announced the news at a press conference to unveil the university’s new chancellor this afternoon and said that an agreement was signed earlier this week.

He said: “We have signed an agreement with the football club to guarantee that they can play in the stadium for the next 10-15 years. That means that if Wrexham get promoted they can register with the Football League.”

It will come as welcome news to reds fans who endured years of uncertainty over the club’s future under former owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts.

Glyndwr University acquired the ground from them for the sum of £1.8million back in August, which paved the way for Wrexham Supporters Trusts successful buyout of Wrexham FC.

Professor Scott said that the university has invested £200,000 into the infrastructure of the ground since they bought it and that they are currently in discussions with several organisations to gain funding for further developments.

Speaking about the possibility of redeveloping the Kop End he said: “Not a week has gone buy since we bought the ground where a discussion relating to the Kop hasn’t gone on. Before that though we need to take a look at improving the pitch and the changing rooms.”

He admitted that the university did not currently have sufficient money to redevelop the Kop but that they were looking into gaining funding for it.

Professor Scott also reiterated the university’s commitment to attracting international football and rugby matches to the Racecourse, he said: “We want this to be a stadium for the whole of North Wales and Mid Wales for that matter.”
