In a statement posted on the club website the board of Wrexham FC said that he would be stepping down at the end of July.

Mr Roberts took up the position on a voluntary basis in December and has been credited with putting the reds on a solid financial footing, with the club breaking even by last month.

Club director Spencer Harris thanked Mr Roberts for his commitment and said that key management positions within the club will report directly to the board for the foreseeable future.

Commenting on his decision Mr Roberts said: “When I came on board the key was to try and get the business on a more manageable and sustainable footing and we have certainly achieved that.

“The role was always looked upon as being an interim one and now is the right time for the business to move into a different phase of Trust ownership.”

“It’s been a privilege to try and help a club which means so much to me and I wish Andy (Morrell) and the players all the very best for the forthcoming season,” he added.

Wrexham FC manager Andy Morrell added to the praise for his work since taking the role, he said: “I can’t thank David enough for all the work he has put in behind the scenes. He’s been tremendous throughout and we’ve been very fortunate to have his services for so long.”
