Staff and students at a Wrexham secondary school are celebrating their recent success at the Urdd Eisteddfod.

12 representatives from Ysgol Rhosnesni secured a win in the Welsh Second Language group recitation competition for Year 10 and over at Eisteddfod Yr Urdd, Meifod 2024.

Lola, Amelia, Phoebe, Lexi, Tilly, Ollie, Maddie, Ben, Callum, Jess, Imy and Dayana all competed as part of ‘Team Rhosnesni’ at the major festival, which celebrates the Welsh language, culture and arts.

Delighted Headteacher, Andy Brant, said: “Winning this competition and securing first place nationally is a tremendous accomplishment and a tribute to our students’ hard work and passion.

“They have been inspired by our strong Cymraeg ethos which is promoted across the school by Mrs Tomos Jones and her amazing team.

“Giving our students exciting opportunities to improve and shine is at the heart of our Welsh language provision.

“However, it’s not just about enjoyment and achievement; my colleagues and I are determined to play our part in realising the Welsh Government target of a million speakers.”

“Llongyfarchiadau, Well done to Lola, Amelia, Phoebe, Lexi, Tilly, Ollie, Maddie, Ben, Callum, Jess, Imy and Dayana!”
