Wrexham Waterworld shortlisted for national award

A Wrexham leisure centre has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award in recognition of its role in the local community.

Waterworld, operated by not-for-profit trust Freedom Leisure on behalf of Wrexham Council, is a Regional Centre of the Year’ finalist in the UK Active Awards 2024.

The category recognises the the commitment to excellence and innovation in the health and fitness industry in leisure facilities.

The UK Active Awards celebrate organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the nation’s leisure industry sector.

“We are incredibly honoured to be recognised as a finalist in the UK Active Awards 2024,” said Ivan Horsfall Turner, Chief Executive Officer of Freedom Leisure.

“This nomination reflects the hard work and passion of our entire team, who are committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.”

Wrexham Waterworld offers a wide range of services including fitness classes, swimming and wellness programmes.

Its mission is to improve lives through leisure, ensuring that their facilities are accessible, welcoming and supportive environments for all.

Freedom Leisure has also been shortlisted in a further four categories in this year’s awards.

The UK Active Awards ceremony will take place on 3 October, 2024, in Birmingham, where winners will be announced across various categories.
