Wrexham University’s 322 bed student accommodation plan for Plas Coch campus

Wrexham University has launched preliminary work that could see new student accommodation built on the Plas Coch campus.

The University looking to spend around £500k for a development partner to design and secure planning approval for what they say is a “much needed new purpose-built student accommodation on a designated site on the Plas Coch campus”

The development is in the region of 322 bedroom student accommodation, plus associated ancillary facilities.

The project could see the delivery of the bedroom blocks split over several phases of development depending on the demand and occupancy rates.

Once the preliminary work is complete a planning application is expected to come forward to for the ‘new build student block’.

The new build student block capacity appears to be of similar size and scope to the existing student flats – built by former Wrexham AFC owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts.

Regular Wrexham.com readers will be familiar with the well documented issues relating to Wrexham Village over the years, with one of our articles explaining the background to an eventual non-answer from Wrexham Council to four straightforward questions.

The student flats have been seen as controversial for Wrexham football club fans, as they were clearly told all profits were due to go into the club, contribute to a new Kop, but they were since told the club will ‘not see a penny more’ and has had all it will have ‘upfront’.

The above leaflet was handed out to fans prior to the existing ‘Wrexham Village’ development starting, with then manager and ‘star‘ name Dean Saunders helping dazzle local councillors into taking a planning ‘gamble‘ via his odd attendance at a council meeting.

The flats were subsequently purchased by the University.
