Local crowds gathered for the Bandstand Marathon event at Llwyn Isaf bandstand on Sunday 8th September 2012. The Bandstand Marathon, the official closing event of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, saw Llwyn Isaf come alive with music on Sunday 9th September, the final day of the Paralympic Games.

It was a memorable afternoon, showcasing the best local talent with amazing performances from Wrexham Community Choir, The Ready Get Set, Steve Hywyn Jones and Tom O’Carroll, Laura Leigh Dickenson and Joey Dickenson of Heal the Last Stand, Baby Brave,40 Days,The Crow Hearts and The Dave Elwyn Band.

The event organised by social enterprise, @sixtyseven communications with support from Wrexham County Borough Council was one of hundreds of outdoor concerts taking place simultaneously in bandstands, parks and town centres throughout the UK.

Wendy Paintsil of @sixtyseven communications said “ this was a great afternoon and everyone enjoyed it – including the audiences who came along and brought their picnics. We were overwhelmed by the support we had from local musicians who were willing to come along at short notice and to everyone who helped out on the day. It was a real team effort and we would like to thank everyone who were involved. The event shows how bandstands are important performance spaces for communities to get together, listen to music outdoors and have fun.”

Carol Crump a member of Wrexham Community Choir said ” The mix of music meant there was something for everyone and it was a delight to see families of several generations picnicing in the sunshine. Children played together; people who may not have realised the event was taking place, paused on their way through Llwyn Isaf, to take in the scene and the sounds. More of the same next year, please!”
