Wrexham filmmaker serves up tennis and music experiment to create a hit!

A Wrexham-based filmmaker has served up a very particular question – is it possible to perfectly sync a tennis match to music?

Across the 11 minute film, 73 Degree Film regulars Rob and James enlist a cast and crew of Wrexham people and places to find out, including Steff Owens from Seazoo and rising tennis star Jemimah Choi.

After working with sound tech expert Steff (drummer in the band Seazoo) to devise an ace method for syncing up tennis shots with the beats of music, Rob and James headed to the Wrexham Tennis Centre to work with manager Aimée Kaye and player Jemimah Choi to try it out.

Once the track was completed the pair headed to popular Wrexham bar and nightclub, 1to5 to play to an unsuspecting crowd on a busy Friday night, to see if it was love or if the unique music would clear the dancefloor.

“This is an idea I’ve wanted to test out for years,” said Rob Corcoran.

“We decided to self-fund an experiment with some friends in Wrexham, to see if it’s possible.

“I’m happy to report that thankfully it works!

“My dream is to take this basic idea and expand it to a big, live version with a DJ live mixing the shots into music in real time. Hopefully now we’ve shown it can work, somewhere might be interested.”

The film is available to watch on Youtube now and you can keep up to date with all 73 Degree Films upcoming projects on Tiktok and Instagram too.
