Wrexham fencers excel at Youth Series competition

Members of Wrexham’s Fencing Club are celebrating after a successful weekend at the Youth Series competition.

Local competitors returned home from the event in Liverpool with several medals and prizes for the culmination of the previous series.

Three fencers had a double day of competition, with Will Bird, Rozalia Slowiakowska and Nataniel Slowiakowski all winning podium spots the day before at an event in Altringham.

Building on this success, the trio enjoyed another day of fencing, with Will taking the silver, Rozalia the gold and overall series third and Nataniel bronze and overall series third.

They were joined by Natalia Beatson, Juliette Devereux and Elias Jones who continued the fine run of Wrexham form.

Natalia picked up the overall series winner award, while Juliette received the gold and overall series second place.

Elias topped out the day by winning the gold and the overall series champion award.

The youngest Wrexham fencer, Rozalia, proceeded to beat all-comers in the U10 mixed sabre event before securing her gold in a great final.

Will took on a tough field to progress confidently to his final, losing out to a strong regional opponent. Juliette continued her strong development, through competing the tough U17 mixed category before securing her gold.

Natalia made some promising progress, secure in the knowledge her great performances earlier in the year has secured her series championship.

While the pick of the events being the U12 boys sabre, as Elias and Nataniel put in exemplary performance in the poules and navigated through tough semi-finals to set up an all Wrexham affair in the final.
