A conductor from Wrexham will be conducting his first concert with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in December, for their ‘Family Christmas’ concerts at the BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff.

Robert Guy overcame childhood deafness to forge a successful career in music as a conductor, educator and entrepreneur.

Guy is the co-founder of NEW Sinfonia, a professional chamber orchestra, which has since expanded to include a community vocal ensemble – ‘NEW Voices’, and an education programme – ‘NEW Academi’. He hopes that the multi-faceted organisation will help to ‘breathe new life’ into the musical community and orchestral music scene in the North East Wales area.

Robert says “I am absolutely thrilled to have been invited to conduct the BBC National Orchestra of Wales this Christmas in Cardiff. Growing up in Wrexham, I remember hearing the BBC NOW for the first time when they came to North Wales and being completely blown away by the sound of an orchestra!

“The conductor Grant Llewelyn came down from the podium and invited young people up to conduct but I was too scared! To come full circle feels special and definitely feels like I am fulfilling a childhood dream. I cannot wait”

The concerts are on Sunday 18th December at 2pm and 4pm. Tickets available from https://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcnow/events/by/date/2022/12
