Wrexham AFC shirts go under the hammer on Thursday to help Miners Rescue Station
Wrexham AFC’s limited-edition match-day worn shirts are being auctioned off to raise funds for the Wrexham Miners Project, the Club’s official nominated charity.
To mark the 90th anniversary of the Disaster, Wrexham AFC swapped the usual red home shirt for the black away kit for the match against Crawley Town – each featuring a special patch to commemorate the anniversary.
The patch features a mining lamp, with a stylised 90 – featuring a pit wheel – and the year of the disaster, 1934. Arranged by New York-based Wrexham fan Jay Julg and designed by Liam Stokes-Massey, the logo was gifted to the Wrexham Miners Project and also features on a range of commemorative clothing and a pin badge. All can be bought from the Wrexham Miners Project, on Maesgwyn Road, with money raised going to their Education Fund.
Now following the game the club have donated the men’s shirts – as well as the ladies’ shirts from their game against Briton Ferry Llansawel on Sunday 22nd September.
In what was described as “another magnificent gesture” by Wrexham AFC all proceeds will go towards the restoration of the Miners Rescue Station. They are hoping to raise approximately £600k for a future phase of the restoration, which will see the transformation of the derelict Superintendent’s Accommodation into a ‘Supported Living Accommodation’ for 4 adults.
By bidding and owning your very own shirt you will also help save an important, historic building for the city and its community.
You can view and take part in the auction online here.
Seperately there is an excellent raffle also taking place that is well worth a look on the Wrexham Miner’s page here.
