Works Start on Western Gateway Access Road
Work has begun on creating road access to a piece of land considered key to Wrexham’s economy.
Located off Croesnewydd Road, the ‘Western Gateway’ site is seen as a prime spot for business and commercial developers. One major local employer – Moneypenny – has already taken the decision to build its new £15m headquarters on the site. And Wrexham Council hopes the new road infrastructure will help attract other businesses in the future.
Councillor Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham Council, said: “By building a new road into the site we’re opening it up for development, allowing businesses to put down new roots in Wrexham, create new jobs for local people and become part of our future success.
“Business investment means jobs. But to attract business, you have to offer the right land and development opportunities. That’s what we’re doing here.”
The work is being undertaken by Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd on behalf of the council, and is expected to be complete by the end of October.
The 22 acres of employment land available at the Western Gateway Business Park will create new opportunities for businesses to locate and to grow in Wrexham.
Councillor Neil Rogers, Lead Member for Economic Development and Regeneration said: “Encouraging local businesses to grow and to remain here is vital. Especially companies like Moneypenny – a UK market-leader with an international reputation.
“It demonstrates our entrepreneurial capability and helps to attract further investment and job opportunities. The Western Gateway Business Park has been seen as having massive potential for attracting business to the area for some time now, so it’s fantastic to see this starting to come to fruition.
“We hope this development will help to attract more top quality employers like Moneypenny in the future.”
Huw Owen, contracts Manager at Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd added: “We’re delighted to be working with Wrexham Council on this project. We hope that our work will help to boost the local economy and provide crucial road access for potential future businesses.
“Our aim is to complete the work by the end of October with as little disruption as possible.”
The work is expected to cause very little traffic disruption on Croesnewydd Road, although it will see traffic signals installed at the new junction to the site.
