Warning over GP surgery fraudsters targeting North Wales residents
A warning has been issued following reports of fraudsters targeting North Wales residents by claiming to be from their local GP surgery.
According to North Wales Police the scammers ask the victims about their general health before recommending new prescriptions for ailments.
The fraudsters then go on to ask the victim for their bank details.
Police are urging residents to be aware of the scam and to not provide any personal or bank details to anyone claiming to be from their GP surgery.
DC Rachel Roberts, financial abuse safeguarding officer at North Wales Police, said: “I would urge residents to be aware of this tactic and not provide personal details or bank details to anyone over the telephone.
“If you receive such a call, please hang up and report to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
“If you are concerned about any ailments or medication, please contact your GP surgery using a phone number you know and trust.”
More information on how to protect yourself from fraudsters and how to report a scam can be found on the Action Fraud website.
