Residents in Wrexham are being urged to get rid of their waste responsibly over the festive period.

Shops in Wrexham will be expecting a busy time over Christmas and the New Year as shoppers prepare for the holiday and take advantage of the sales.

This may lead to households generating more waste over the Christmas period and Wrexham Council’s Environment department is reminding people not to be tempted to break the law by dumping their rubbish. Those found responsible for incorrectly getting rid of their waste and fly tipping offences could face a Court summons and fines running into thousands of pounds.

It has also been revealed that fly-tipping is costs Welsh councils over £3m a year to clean up.

Cllr Bob Dutton, OBE, Lead Member for Environment said: “Many of us may be treating ourselves to a bargain in the post-Christmas sales by buying a new gadget or furniture for the home. Wrexham Council is urging people to think carefully about what they do with their old furniture and appliances, and to recycle or dispose of them in the correct manner.

“Fly tipping is an offence and a menace on our communities. It will not be tolerated and the council will use the full extent of the law to investigate and prosecute these people who flout their responsibilities”
