Voicebox is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a cabaret of creatives in our first World Culture Open Mic.

Created in 2013 by Tim Humphreys-Jones at Un Deg Un in Wrexham, Voicebox has become part of the fabric of the lical culture scene hosting local, national, and international performers in venues across Wrexham and North Wales including Normal Lovett, Mr. Phormula, Rufus Mufasa, Martin Daws, Sophie McKeand, and Connor Allen.

On Friday (17 November) Voicebox will celebrated its tenth anniversary with DEG, DEG, DEG!, a dedicated World Culture Open Mic, featuring performances from Yasmine Latkowski, a local international composer with her full band to present a multicultural fusing of the Middle Eastern to Welsh Folk Roots.

Supported by Race Council Cymru the event will feature infamous open mic with poets, musicians, rappers, comedians, dancers and performers in many genres on the stage, alongside 3 headline acts.

They will also be joined by-songwriter and novelty-alt-pop artist alongside underground, unknown & underfunded pan-global party band, World Wide Welshman. As well as folk, tragi-comic pop and indi-Gymreig duo, Lo-fi Jones who were recently nominated for “best original English language song” category in the Welsh Folk Awards 2023 with their song “Slag Heap”.

Artistic Director, Natasha Borton, said: ‘In true Voicebox style, we’re bringing the party back to poetry with a multicultural platform that represents the diversity and talent of North East Wales.

“10 years is an incredible achievement, we’ve been part of over 150 events, supporting over 1000 performers alongside hundreds of venues and organisations across Wales and England. A

“s an organisation we’ve proud to have survived COVID-19, contributed to international events, elevated local performers and still thrive as a truly grassroots, artists-led community.’

Yasmine Latkowski, co-organiser added: My band are excited to be sharing the stage with Liam and Sion who I met in the World Music scene a few years ago. I can’t wait to showcase what we all do together in Wrexham.

“The world music open mic will be really encouraging led by Liam in English and Welsh, his band can accompany anyone.”

DEG, DEG, DEG! will take place on Friday 17 November from 7pm at Saith Seren, Wrexham. No pre-booking required and attendees can pay-what-you-decide donations.  For more information, please visit Voicebox Wxm on Facebook or Instagram.
