Don’t miss out on taking part in the UK’s first ever virtual balloon race, which starts online at www.rabr.co.uk/ngh on Friday 14 June. Wrexham.com has already entered so you will be racing against us!

Organised by the entrepreneurial PTA committee members at Eyton School, the Virtual Balloon Race is set to raise funds for both a new playground at the school, and for local hospice Nightingale House.

To purchase a virtual balloon and take part in the race, visit www.rabr.co.uk/ngh. Balloons are £5 each and you can purchase as many as you would like. By going online, you can personalise your balloon by choosing the size, shape and even the thickness of the balloon rubber.

The race lasts a whole week, finishing on Friday 21 June 2013. The balloon that has travelled the furthest in that time will be announced the winner, and will take home a Kindle Fire. There will also be prizes for second and third.

The fundraising activity seemed like the perfect venture for the school as head teacher Mrs Caldwell explained:

“Initially we were looking for ways in which the PTA and school could fundraise for a new playground for the children and we also wanted to support Nightingale House Hospice.”

“The Virtual Balloon race seemed like the perfect venture and it seems Eyton School will be the first to run such an event in the UK. The activity ticks a number of boxes, it ties in with national curriculum and foundation phase learning it will be great fun. It also suits our pupil Eco committee because we are not using real balloons! ”

“The project offers opportunities for the children to develop skills in literacy, numeracy, science, geography and ICT. They will gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the weather, direction, distance, maps, places, materials and forces. The children will also learn about Nightingale House Hospice during educational sessions leading up to the launch, a vital charity within our community and one in which we very much support the work of.”

Margaret Hollings, Fundraising and Events Manager at Nightingale House Hospice said:

“The Virtual Balloon Race is an exciting opportunity for Nightingale House Hospice as well as the school as it is very futuristic and a unique way to support both Nightingale House and Eyton School. We are thrilled to be charity partner and also to be the first organisation to launch such an event in the UK. Please do support us by purchasing a balloon for just £5. Balloon cards can be bought from Eyton School or you can visit www.rabr.co.uk/ngh
