Victorian themed event to celebrate 175th anniversary of Chester to Shrewsbury line
A Victorian Open Day will take place this month to mark the 175th anniversary of the Chester to Shrewsbury rail line.
Organised by 3 Counties Connected Community Rail Partnership, the railway themed event on Wednesday 9 August will take place at Chirk Parish Hall.
Between 11am and 3:30pm visitors will have the chance to take part in the Victorian themed celebrations, which will include ‘The Amazeology Show’, Victorian dressing up activities, children’s workshops, history displays, Victorian photo booth, the chance to meet famous Victorian Railway Engineer Thomas Brassey and much more.
The Chester to Shrewsbury line officially opened on 1st August 1848, with the construction of Chester Station.
The opening was met with great acclaim due to the wide range of destinations that could be reached for the first time.
The line passes through the train stations at Chester, Wrexham, Ruabon, Chirk, Oswestry and Shrewsbury.
Refreshments will be available on the day, with all donations received donated to the Chirk Community Food Cupboard.
The 175th anniversary of the Chester to Shrewsbury line will take place on Wednesday 9 August at Chirk Parish Hall from 11am to 3:30pm.
