Unite to ballot Wrexham workers after new pay offer from Wrexham Council
This evening Unite have said they are set to ballot workers in Wrexham after new pay offer was made from Wrexham Council.
Since the start of September Unite members at Wrexham Council have already held several weeks of strikes, with action until the end of November on the cards. It comes after Unite members “overwhelmingly rejected the local authority employers pay offer of just £1,925″ – The union argues that it represented a poorer offer than last year and a real terms pay cut, with many Unite members within Welsh Local Authorities working for barely above the national minimum wage.
Tonight Unite have said, “Following seven weeks of strike action Unite can confirm that it has now received a new pay offer from Wrexham Council. Unite will now ballot its members within Wrexham Council as to whether they are willing to accept the offer.
“The result of Unites ballot will be declared on Friday afternoon. Strike action by our members will continue during this period. Unite will not be making any further public comment in relation to this matter until the ballot and result has been declared.”
There has been no statement from Wrexham Council, however previously they have said “Wrexham Council cannot negotiate with Unite on this national pay matter”.
