Thieves Stole Birds From Wrexham School’s Aviary
Staff and pupils at a Wrexham school have been left angered and upset after callous thieves broke into the property and stole a number of budgies from school’s aviary.
Thieves targeted St Christopher’s School, on Stockwell Grove earlier last month – stealing a number of budgies and leaving the building damaged.
An initial appeal for information sent out yesterday noted that seven birds had been taken from the property, however Headteacher of St Christopher’s School, Maxine Pittaway told Wrexham.com that around 30 had been taken between the 12th and 16th June.
Damage was caused to the roof of the aviary, which is located at the centre of the school and an estimated 30 budgies were taken from the premises across the two days.
Ms Pittaway told Wrexham.com that staff and pupils had been left ‘annoyed and very angry’ at the theft of the birds. We are also told that those responsible for the theft left a ‘massive hole’ in the roof of the aviary.
Ms Pittaway added: “We don’t know if some of the birds were stolen or if they have flown off. As part of our programme we do animal care for a lot of schools. We still have some birds, but we have lost a lot.”
Yesterday PCSO Kelsey Edwards tweeted the below pictures of some of the birds that had been taken from the school.
