With bonfire night falling at an odd day – a Monday – rather than a weekend, most events took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The fire service told us that there was only one bonfire / firework related call out in the Wrexham area during this period – at 9:27pm on Friday on St Giles Crescent in Caia Park where a ‘small bonfire’ was extinguished.

North Wales Police joined forced with North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to ask people to ‘Be a Nice Guy’ with Operation BANG being the er, acronym.

Gareth Griffiths, Senior Fire Safety Manager for the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said “Every year, countless people are badly injured and burnt in the run up to the bonfire season when lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks. Organised community events in North Wales definitely provide the best value for money for entertainment and also ensure that families no longer need to risk the dangers of back garden bonfire and fireworks parties.

With such a low level of fire related incidents it appears that the ‘operation’ was a success!
