A ‘scentsational’ independent fragrance business is set to open in a city centre retail development.

Marsden & Whittle, which specialises in quality reed diffusers, room mists, bath & body products and more, is the fourth company to set up shop in Wrexham’s Chapter Court.

Founded in 2021 by Matt Weaver, the brand takes its inspiration from the passions and interests of his grandparents, Maurice Marsden and Priscilla Whittle and is named in their memory.

With people spending more time at home than ever before, Matt started the business using his lifelong love of home fragrance to help people enhance their homes with the power of scent.

Soon after starting the business Matt met Scott who had just finished a 14 year career in retail management and was keen to get involved.

The duo’s first event together was at Wrexham Feast in September 2021, and since then the pair have been familiar faces at subsequent Feasts and the Wrexham Artisan Market.

The pair will celebrate the grand opening of their new store in Chapter Court – at 7-9 Queen Street – at 10am on Saturday 24 August.

Matt Weaver & Scott Goodburn, Directors of Marsden & Whittle said: “Throughout our three years of trading in-and-around Wrexham we have enjoyed fantastic support from the team at Fair Event Management who have continually championed our independent business.

“Their regular events have helped us bring our home fragrances to hundreds of homes across Wrexham and we now have a loyal customer following right here in the city.

“This new retail opportunity at Chapter Court represents the perfect next-step for our business and we cannot wait to welcome customers into our first bricks and mortar store.”

Shoppers will be able to experience all 18 of Marsden & Whittle’s luxurious fragrances available in their reed diffusers, room mists and reed diffuser refills. Every customer will receive a free gift with their purchase when they spend over £25.

Marsden & Whittle is the fourth business to open in Chapter Court – a micro retailing development in the former CeX on Queen Street – in recent weeks.

Ride the Wave, an independent business specialising in clothing and accessories inspired by the ocean and water sports, and game shop Red Dragon’s Vault officially opened in the city centre this month.

The businesses have joined Rough Hands Bar, which has been trading in Chapter Court since April.

Marsden & Whittle will open its new fragrance store in Chapter Court at 10am on Saturday 24 August. It will be open through the Bank Holiday weekend from 11am-5pm on both Sunday and Monday.
