Safe standing Kop “will be part of the new age of football”, the leader of Welsh Conservatives has said.
Senedd Leader Andrew Davies MS was speaking during a visit to Wrexham AFC and Pedal Power in Wrexham.
Davies met with Fleur Robinson, CEO of Wrexham AFC, to have a tour of The Racecourse and hear the plans for the new 5,000+ capacity Kop stand which include a new public realm and associated works externally.
The plans will provide 500 seats in the hospitality on the upper tier of the Kop and the ground flood concourse will accommodate up to 600 visitors on non-match days for events and exhibitions.
The Kop Development also includes a relocated Club Shop, offering “enhanced community facilities and offices”.
Commenting, the Senedd Conservative Leader said: “Wrexham is a club bursting with excitement and energy.
“After the restrictions on attending sports events, it’s great to see the bustle here at Wrexham AFC, who are moving from strength to strength.
“There’s no doubt that the new Kop stand will not only add a huge chunk of capacity, but will also be part of the new age of football, where fans are not treated with suspicion and are able to stand safely in stadiums while they cheer on their team.”
After the visit to the Racecourse, Mr Davies visited cycling charity Pedal Power in Wrexham.
Based at Alyn Waters Country Park, Pedal Power have a fleet of standard and specialist bikes, hand-cycles, wheelchair bikes and side-by-side bikes, and a traffic free cycle track around the park.
Mr Davies said, “It’s wonderful what the team at Pedal Power are doing here, providing the equipment and setting for people of all abilities to enjoy cycling in a safe and beautiful environment.
“The team are passionate about cycling and about making sure that everybody, no matter their ability, can enjoy it.”
