With Christmas just days away, North Wales Police is encouraging residents to ensure they take extra precautions to protect personal belongings to reduce the chance of them becoming victims of burglaries.

The early dark nights and dark mornings often lead to an increase in ‘Twilight Burglaries’ – with opportunistic thieves targeting homes.

North Wales Police is urging residents to consider the following crime prevention advice over the festive period and winter months:-

  • Do not leave Christmas presents near windows where they can be easily seen.
  • Double check that all doors and windows are locked on the property when it is unoccupied or when going to bed.
  • Consider purchasing CCTV for the property to cover all entry and exit points.
  • Consider purchasing an interactive doorbell for the front door.
  • Consider purchasing security lighting for all entry and exit points of the property.
  • Consider purchasing a “Garage Defender” for garage doors.
  • Ensure that all garden sheds are locked and secured.
  • Consider purchasing SmartWater. This works in a similar way to DNA, it allows your marked property to be traced back to you should it ever be stolen and recovered. North Wales Police currently have a discount code which takes the price from £59.50 down to £25.
