Yesterday saw the start of a week long campaign against bullying

Anti-Bullying Week, which runs from the 18th – 22nd November, is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of the concerns that surround bullying and helping individuals come up with new ideas on how to prevent it.

The campaign focuses on the different types of bullying, from teasing, name calling and verbal threats to physical violence, homophobic and sexual abuse. However the campaign also focuses on new technologies and social media to promote a positive communication rather than being held back by cyber-bullying.

Various anti-bullying charities are involved with the campaign and are urging schools, colleges, other education providers and organisations to get involved.

Local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths is encouraging people in Wrexham to take a stand against bullying.

Wrexham AM Ms Griffiths said: “People who are being bullied can often feel isolated and distressed so campaigns like Anti-Bullying Week can help address the key issues, beat the bullies and vastly improve the lives of the victims.”

“There are many fundraising tips and ideas online and I hope people in Wrexham take part and support the campaign.”

To show your support and raise awareness, the website www.beatbullying.org contains many fundraising hints, tips and information. One way of taking part is by purchasing the blue wristbands which are available online and are a great way for students, parents and school staff to show their support for the fight against bullying.
