Public urged to have their say on access improvements to Gwersyllt Station
Train users are being asked to have their say on improving the access to Gwersyllt Railway Station.
Wrexham Council, along with Transport for Wales and consultancy firm, Atkins Realis, is holding a join consultation on potential active travel changes around the station on Hope Street.
The proposals include changes such as new crossing facilities, improved dropped kerbs and tactile paving, continuous crossings across side roads as well as dedicated provision for walking and cycling.
Two options are being considered along Mold Road – between Delamere Avenue and Gwersyllt Station – including the introduction of shared-use walking and cycle paths and a segregated walking and cycle paths that run alongside each other down Mold Road.
On Hope Street, near the station itself, it has been proposed that a signal-controlled priority for pedestrians to access the two existing stepped rail station entrances is introduced.
Along Plas Coch Road between Stansty Chain Road and Mold Road members of the public are asked to have their say on widened footways and installation of zebra crossings to prioritise walking and crossing facilities.
The proposed improvements to these routes aim to make them safer for pedestrians and cyclists and are part of Wrexham Council’s, Welsh Government-approved, Active Travel Network Maps project.
Cllr David A Bithell, Deputy Leader with responsibility for strategic transport, said, “Improving access to public transport for the people of Wales and the borders is essential if we want to encourage active travel.
“Please take the time to fill in the consultation so we can take on board everyone’s views on how improved access at this station can be improved.”
The consultation is available online and members have until October 13 to view the proposals and have their say.
