Poppy Seeds In Bloom for WW1 Commemorations
150,000 poppy seeds that have kindly been donated by B&Q to Wrexham’s schools are flooding the County Borough with a sea of red.
The Royal British Legion Flanders Poppies were given by the store earlier this year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.
The Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr David Griffiths is delighted with the results and took time out from the recent celebrations to grant the Welsh Guards Freedom of the County Borough to admire the poppies outside the Guildhall.
Cllr Griffiths said: “It is extremely pleasing to see that the poppies planted by local school children to mark the outbreak of WW1 are now in full bloom and serve as a timely reminder of the horrors of the War.
“I hope that some of the children will be able to come to the Guildhall and see them in flower and see the fruits of their labour.”
