Police Clampdown on Anti-Social Behaviour at People’s Market Stairwells
Police are clamping down on anti-social behaviour at a town centre car park following complaints of drug paraphernalia and human waste being found in the stairwells.
The news comes as a result of a series incidents which have seen shoppers discover litter, alcohol bottles and drug paraphernalia strewn across the floors and steps of the stairwells of the People’s Market Car Park.
Wrexham.com first reported on the issue in December 2015 when one reader contacted us with the image featured below, which was taken during the period of ‘free parking’ in the People’s Market.
Similar issues were also reported last month, when one shopper contacted Wrexham.com to say they had discovered a ‘drug den’ in the People’s Market stairwells – with blood, drugs, foil and even human waste found on the floor.
The ongoing issues with the appearance and upkeep of the stairwells have resulted in concerns about the affect it may have on people’s first impressions of Wrexham. One reader has previously told Wrexham.com: “They do not provide a good welcome to those who have parked in the car park and are visiting the town for the first time’.
However issues with the People’s Market stairwells appear to have been addressed, with Sgt Darren Jacks telling the Town Centre Forum Meeting that officers were patrolling the area on a regular basis.
Reference was also made to the article featured on Wrexham.com, with Sgt Jacks noting that the stairwells had been causing concern for those using the facility, with human waste and drugs being reported by visitors.
Sgt Jacks added: “The stairwells are being cleaned on a daily basis, but it is a recurrence. We are making special efforts to visit throughout the day and evening and arrests were made last week about the drug use in the area.”
If anyone discovers any evidence of drugs paraphernalia you can report it (anonymously if you prefer) on 01978 292000. If anyone wishes to report any incidences of drug use or anti social behaviour then please contact North Wales Police on 101.
