Wrexham city centre was turned into a giant play area this afternoon as part of the annual Playday celebrations.

Taking place on Llwyn Isaf and Queens Square huge crowds turned out to enjoy the free activities on offer.

These included marshmallow toasting, football, a maze, den making and even the chance to just sit and make something out of cardboard boxes.

On Queens Square the giant sandpit was a popular feature with many youngsters enjoying sandcastle building with their families and friends.

Elsewhere there was the chance to play the floor is lava and take part in fun games and activities organised by local play and youth organisations.

Youngsters were also encouraged to make their mark and draw with brightly coloured chalk outside the Guildhall.

As usual the slip-and-slide was a popular feature and unlike previous years there was no lead member from Wrexham Council in the stocks waiting for wet sponges to hit them in their face!

Playday takes places on the first Wednesday in August and is a celebration of a child’s right to play.

Activities are taking place on Queens Square and Llwyn Isaf until 4pm this afternoon (August 7).
