Planning permission for a new eatery on the outskirts of Wrexham city centre has been extended.

In February 2024 Wrexham.com reported that Initiatives Design Ltd, agents acting on behalf of the applicants, had requested a five year extension for works to begin at Unit 1B at Regent House.

Permission for a change of use of the empty property, on Regent Street, into a cafe or takeaway was first granted back in 2018.

The applicants at the time stated that there had been enquiries from a “national coffee shop chain and a potential restaurant tenure”.

However planning permission for works on the empty store have recently lapsed.

A five year extension to allow for works to begin has now been granted by Wrexham Council’s chief officer for economy and planning, David Fitzsimon.

In a delegated decision Mr Fitzsimon said that prior to any works taking place, further details on ventilation, opening hours, biodiversity and cycle storage must be approved by the council.

Unit 1B is the last vacant unit in the row of shops in Regent House, which also houses Papa Johns and ‘Pepe’s Piri Piri’ on the ground floor.
