Plaid Cymru election candidate Becca Martin vows “Political Earthquake” in Westminster

The Plaid Cymru candidate for the upcoming General Election has said a vote for the party will cause a “political earthquake” in Westminster.

Becca Martin, the prospective parliamentary candidate for Plaid Cymru, is currently a councillor for the Maesydre ward.

36-year-old Becca, who works in a town-centre jewellers said that July 4 was a chance for the people of Wrexham to “ensure it had a voice in Westminster”.

She said: “It’s time to shake up Westminster and stop accepting the tired old arguments that we have to vote for one of two parties.

“The Tories have been in power for 14 years and it’s fair to say that everything feels broken – sewage in our seas and rivers, public services decimated, our NHS on its knees and public transport crumbling.

“Here in Wales, a century of voting Labour has seen them take us for granted – and we’ve seen how arrogant and out of touch they are in power with a First Minister who is willing to take dodgy donations from a convicted polluter.

“People have vote for who will be Wrexham’s representative in London.

“We all want rid of this Tory regime but sending another Labour MP to Westminster won’t create a ripple, sending a Plaid MP would be a political earthquake.

“Let’s make sure Wrexham gets the attention it deserves by electing an MP who is passionate about making a difference.”

Cllr Martin added: “This is an exciting opportunity. I’m looking forward to the campaign as it feels like we can make a real difference to people’s daily lives by voting for fairness and ambition for Wales.”

In a personal statement, Cllr Martin explained why she was standing: “I’m 36 and live in Wrexham with my partner Michael and my son Charlie on the same street I grew up on.

“Born and raised here, I attended local schools before going on to Yale college and finally NEWI to complete a degree in Early Childhood Studies.

“I’ve worked in a local family business for the last 20 years and was elected in 2021 to represent Maesydre at council level before being re-elected to represent the new combined ward of Acton and Maesydre in 2022.

“I love Wrexham, I love the community and its people; I am proud to call it my home and it’s where I want to raise my son.

“We need genuine change here in Wrecsam. We need someone who is going to truly represent us in Westminster, someone who is going to fight our corner.

“An individual with the passion and determination to make a real difference, not someone content with towing the party line or simply posing for photos. I believe I am that person.

“I know what matters to our town, I know what is important to the people here, I know because I was born and bred here, I know because I have Wrexham in my heart. I know you. I know what matters, because I am one of you.”
