A petition has been launched to bring back the unofficial mascot of Waterworld.

The inflatable green alien oversaw proceedings at Waterworld and kept an eye out on the potholes at the Tesco Roundabout from its home in the window of the leisure centre for many years.

Children and adults alike who lived in Wrexham in the late 90s / throughout the 00s may remember the ‘out of this world’ unofficial mascot for Waterworld.

However the alien has been unseen since Freedom Leisure took over the leisure centre several years ago and despite calls for to phone home, its whereabouts remain unknown.

A petition has now been launched with tens of signatures already to bring back an icon of the town. Hari, who started the petition told us the alien was ‘a highlight of my childhood’.

We asked Wrexham Council if it would be possible to confirm the whereabouts of the alien – who remains unnamed – and if there was any chance it would be returning to planet Waterworld.

A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: “While we rarely comment on former members of staff, we are happy to confirm that the alien who formerly supervised the slide at Waterworld is enjoying a happy retirement – though cannot confirm his current address, as doing so would see us in breach of a number of US military secrets, including certain activities centred around an airbase in Nevada.

“We will accept the petition upon its presentation, and hope that those behind it live long, and prosper.”

If you have a picture of Waterworld with the alien in the window send it over – we are trawling the archives to locate one!
