Officer suffers hand injury after being “assaulted by a male brandishing an axe”

Police have said an officer has suffered a hand injury after being “assaulted by a male brandishing an axe” following an incident on the North Wales Coast.

This evening police have updated to say, “Shortly before 3.30pm this afternoon , officers attended a residential property in Dwygyfylchi on a routine policing matter.

“A police officer was subsequently assaulted by a male brandishing an axe and sustained a hand injury.

“A policing operation involving armed officers was undertaken to facilitate the safe arrest of the suspect.

“At 9.08pm, officers entered the property and a 57 year old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding.

“We understand that concern and disruption will have been caused as a result of this operation and we appreciate the patience and support of the local community whilst we resolved this incident.”
