All NHS Staff In Wales To Receive The Living Wage
The NHS in Wales is set to become a living wage employer, meaning thousands of the lowest-paid staff will receive an increase in their basic salary.
From September 2014, all staff will be paid at least the living wage of £7.65 an hour.
This will affect about 2,400 of the lowest paid employers who, in some cases, will receive an increase in their basic salary of up to £470.
The current minimum wage stands at £6.31 an hour but the Living Wage Commission has called for all public sector workers to be paid a living wage of at least £7.65 per hour.
Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the new pay deal which has been announced by the Welsh Government.
Lesley Griffiths AM said: “This decision by the Welsh Government demonstrates their commitment to tackling poverty and promoting fairness in Welsh public services.
“There is a considerable difference between the minimum wage and living wage and the increase in pay will no doubt make a difference to the estimated 2,400 people affected.
“I am proud the NHS in Wales has adopted the living wage. Across the country, there is a great respect for the NHS workforce and the organisation is leading the way in supporting its lowest paid staff.
