Wrexham Green Watch have shared the above image of a new piece of kit that was called into action yesterday.

The local fire crew said, “Last week, we were issued a new piece of equipment for one of our appliances: a hybrid electric emergency isolation plug. This device is used to isolate both hybrid and fully electric vehicles.”

Noting a call out to an incident yesterday morning they explained how they used it for the first time, “We were mobilised to a road traffic collision persons trapped this involved three vehicles, one of which was fully electric. We mobilised two rescue pumps from Wrexham, along with Wrexham’s Environmental Protection Unit and Deeside’s rescue pump.

“Upon arrival, we conducted a thorough 360-degree risk assessment. Firefighter Sam Wright was then assigned to secure the electric vehicle using the new rescue plug, while the hybrid vehicle was fully stabilised. To gain better access to the casualty, we decided to relocate the second vehicle.”

“With a North Wales Police officer already attending to the casualty inside the vehicle, we carefully executed the relocation with the casualty still inside. Once the vehicle was repositioned, we fully stabilised it and Firefighter Jordan Davies was sent in to provide casualty care and treatment. Following Jordan’s assessment and handover, we initiated the ‘exit project,’ guiding the casualty to self-extricate with the support of both fire and ambulance personnel.”

They added, “We remained on the scene to oversee the handover to the recovery company. Occupant was conveyed to hospital for treatment and check up.”

The Welsh Ambulance service have previously said, “While we appreciate some incidents may be of interest to the public, this is not the same as in the public interest. We therefore no longer respond to enquiries about routine incidents, including minor RTCs, unless there is significant disruption or other extenuating circumstances. Most RTCs on the thousands of miles of road we serve are minor and do not involve serious injury or major disruption.”
