A bid to increase the number of stem cell donors has been backed by Wrexham MP Ian Lucas.

Mr Lucas joined other MPs and Parliamentary staff at a session in Parliament this week to register as a potential stem cell donor. The Love Hope Strength / Delete Blood Cancer event was backed by a number of North Wales MPs, as well as singer Mike Peters, of the Alarm and Big Country – who also performed at the event.

The drive to boost donors is part of a wider campaign, aimed at improving the chances of people who need a stem cell donation finding a match – currently half of the people in Britain who are trying to find a donor do not receive a match.

Mr Lucas said: “The process was brief and simple, but it could save someone’s life. I would urge people to look into becoming a donor – their support is very much needed.”
