A Mountain Warehouse Outlet store has opened on Island Green, meaning the ‘shopping centre’ is once again at full capacity.

The Mountain Warehouse Outlet recently opened on Island, occupying the old HMV unit, which had remained empty since the branch closed down its Wrexham store back in February 2013.

Previously there has been a Mountain Warehouse store located next to Starbucks on Eagles Meadow, however the unit closed several months ago and has since remained vacant.

Also set to open just across the way from Mountain Warehouse is a new Iceland store, which will be occupying the previous Brantano unit.

Back in at the start of July we reported that Brantano was due to close down, having occupied the largest unit on Island Green for several years.

Locally there had been rumours circulating around the town that Iceland would be occupying the unit, however details weren’t confirmed until mid July when documents confirming the move were released.

More recently a link to an article posted on our forums suggests that the new Iceland store could be part of a ‘Flagship branch’ that is being trialled in several locations up and down the country.

There is no confirmed date as to when the new Iceland is set to open, however anyone who has paid a visit to Island Green recently will have noticed that there is a lot of work taking place both on the interior / exterior of the unit.

The opening of the Mountain Warehouse Outlet and Iceland means that Island Green is now at full capacity, the first time since Jessops and HMV closed. The old HMV unit had remained vacant since its closure last year, however Costa has occupied the previous Jessops unit for several months.

When we popped down to Island Green yesterday, there were a number of shoppers wandering around the area and more noticeably, the car park was packed!
