Plans for a ‘dream’ £15m office development in Wrexham – featuring a tree house, village pub and spectacular village views, have today been unveiled.

Moneypenny, the UK’s leading telephone answering specialist has today unveiled plans to build a brand new £15m headquarters which aims to rival the likes of Google and Apple.

Located on the Western Gateway site in Wrexham, the new office will also enjoy a 10 acre plot with nature trails, orchards, vegetable gardens and stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Ed Reeves, co-founder and director of Moneypenny, has been responsible for spearheading the flagship project. He says: “We’re thrilled to unveil the designs for our new headquarters. This marks the start of an exciting new stage in Moneypenny’s life and we’re confident it will be one of the most advanced buildings of its kind in the UK.”

Ed, who describes the development as “10 acres of dreamland”, adds: “We literally sat down with a blank piece of paper and asked ourselves what we could do with these 10 acres of dream Greenfield land? The answer was to create our ideal home – somewhere exciting and innovative, yet practical. The manufacturing industry has long been building commercial premises to suit its needs, but up until now, most offices just follow a standard template. We wanted to change this and rip up the rule book.”

Perhaps something you’d usually find in London or Silicon Valley rather than Wrexham, every inch of the 91,000 sq ft building has been designed to cater for the needs of Moneypenny’s employees and clients. This includes creating the perfect environment for call handling, and Moneypenny – who worked with AEW Architects on the project – tasked expert sound engineers to create bespoke technology that will absorb sound and eliminate background noise.

Ed continues: “It was our vision to create not just the best office for us, but the best office in the UK, and we are determined to achieve this. The development has already been likened to a ‘Google of the North’ which is a huge compliment, but we’d actually like to venture one step further and say that our new campus will be even better. Not only will our staff have all the benefits of an amazing office, but they’ll also be able to enjoy a peaceful countryside setting. For us, creating the perfect office is miles away from a city centre postcode.”

With space to house up to 1,000 staff who will be representing thousands of UK businesses, the development demonstrates a significant investment for the company and its clients.

Managing director, Glenn Jackson, adds: “Business continues to grow at a phenomenal pace and we’re busy recruiting even more PAs. We’re incredibly proud of our fantastic team here, and if you want to be one of the first people to join us in our new headquarters, we’d love to hear from you.”

The new campus will also be one of the most environmentally sustainable projects in the country. By using rainwater recycling, solar energy, ground source heating and natural ventilation for climate control, the company aims to be almost entirely self-sufficient.

Speaking about the development, Councillor Neil Rogers, Wrexham Council’s lead member for economic development and regeneration, said: “Moneypenny started life in Wrexham. It’s grown into an incredibly successful business, and is a major local employer – so it’s brilliant to see the company continuing to invest in its future here. We’re delighted to support Moneypenny on this project and it’s a real vote of confidence for Wrexham as a business location.”

Lesley Griffiths AM for Wrexham says: “Over the last 15 years, Moneypenny has moved from strength to strength and developed into a highly successful, multi-national company. These are very exciting times for the business.  Their continued success is creating hundreds of employment opportunities for local people and putting Wrexham firmly on the map. I congratulate everyone involved and wish the team all the very best for the future.”

Wrexham MP, Ian Lucas, added: “I’m delighted that Moneypenny, a real Wrexham success story, is once again looking to invest and expand in our town. To have one of the most innovative and exciting workplaces in the UK being built here in Wrexham is great news for the staff at Moneypenny, as well as for employment, for the town and for North Wales.”
Moneypenny is currently located on Wrexham Technology Park.

Pochin’s Construction has been chosen as the contractor, and Moneypenny is proud to be working with a number of local companies including Chester-based Avid Property Consultants and Hatrick Property Services from Ruabon.

Work is expected to be finished on the development in spring 2016.
