Meat and poultry wholesale firm seeking retrospective approval for takeaway

A meat and poultry wholesale firm is seeking retrospective approval for a hot food takeaway next to its base on Wrexham Industrial Estate.

The takeaway run by Bicks Chicks on Abenbury Way, which sells hot and cold drinks, burgers and breakfast items, has been trading for more than six years without planning permission.

A formal application has now been lodged by the owners of the company to gain authorisation for the unit, known as Bicks Coffee and Grill.

Agents acting on their behalf said the takeaway, which was created by converting shipping containers, had proved popular with people working on the industrial estate.

In a design and access statement submitted to Wrexham Council, they said: “We have been employed by our client to apply for retrospective planning permission for a hot food takeaway unit located within the employment area of the Wrexham Industrial Estate, adjacent to the local butchers Bicks Chicks.

“The takeaway unit provides a convenient local venue for lunch on the industrial estate, being within walking distance for some and very short car journey for many, reducing the use of vehicles at lunch time within the area.

“The shipping containers have been formed together to create a unique takeaway unit by removing the walls between them.

“The commercial nature of the unit is in keeping with the employment area, providing more job opportunities.

“The existing takeaway unit has been existing for over six years and has proven to be a beneficial addition to the area without any detriment to the surroundings.”

Parking for the takeaway is provided via the existing car park for Bicks

Chicks, which the agents said had been “evidently sufficient” since it opened.

Feedback is currently being invited on the application on the local authority’s website, with a decision expected at a later date.
