A fast food retailer has confirmed it will open a new restaurant in Wrexham.

McDonald’s will take over the former Pizza Hut, on Central Retail Park in spring 2024.

The pizza restaurant closed suddenly at the end of September, with the company stating that “reasons beyond its control” had led to the decision.

Work has been underway since stripping out the former interiors, with McDonalds confirming it will take over the premises.

The fast food giant estimates that the new restaurant will create approximately 100 full time and part time jobs.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “We are currently on-site at Wrexham’s Central Retail Park undertaking surveys with a view to opening a new restaurant in early Spring 2024.”

This will be the third McDonald’s in Wrexham County Borough, with the company occupying a large premises on Regent Street in the city centre and a drive-thru in Chirk.

Earlier this year the Welsh Government Planning Inspectorate rejected plans for a new McDonald’s on Plas Coch Retail Park, stating that the “development had the potential capable of increasing the levels of phosphates discharged into the catchment of the River Dee and Bala Lake Riverine Special Areas of Conservation (SAC).”‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌
