A Wrexham primary school has been thanked for its continued support of its local community football club.

Pupils at Llay Park CP School have once again created a large Guy Fawkes for the Llay Welfare Football Club ahead of its annual “Bonfire Night Extravaganza”.

One of Llay`s elected members, Councillor Rob Walsh, who is also a governor at the school was on hand to help with the collection of the Guy.

“Collecting the school`s Guy has become an annual event and long may it continue,” said Cllr Walsh.

“Once again, I cannot praise our pupils enough for the quality of the Guy they have made.

“Not only are they serving their community with their work, but it is giving them practical experience as well as contributing to their education.”

Llay Welfare FC representative Gavin Davies was also very grateful to the school pupils for their hard work and support of the club.

He said: “The Bonfire Night Extravaganza is the club`s big night of the year.

“The monies raised help keep our club going and but more importantly it is there to bring our community together.

“The evening also attracts many visitors from other communities so it is our opportunity to really put Llay on the map.

“I cannot begin to thank the pupils of Llay Park CP School for what they have done.

“Not only the big Guy but the little ones they have made too. It is almost a shame to put them on the bonfire but that’s the purpose of the occasion.

“Massive thank you also to Kent Supplies for their support by sponsoring the event.”

The “Bonfire Night Extravaganza” will take place at Llay Miners Welfare this Friday (3 November).

Gates open at 5.30pm, bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the firework display will commence from 7pm.

There will also be fairground rides, hot food stalls and kids disco.
