Wrexham’s MS has given a scathing verdict on the rejection of the Wrexham Gateway ‘Levelling Up’ bid.

Last night we reported that the ‘Levelling Up’ bid for the Wrexham Gateway project had been rejected by UK Government for a second time.‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Responding to the news Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd, Lesley Griffiths said: “Having already rejected the Gateway Project once, to do so a second time shows a staggering lack of commitment from the Tory UK Government and is a real kick in the teeth for the people of Wrexham.

“The indecision and indecisiveness is bitterly disappointing. Partners such as the Welsh Government, Wrexham Council, Transport for Wales, Wrexham Glyndwr University, the FAW and Wrexham AFC have worked on and been committed to the Gateway Project for years, determined to deliver something truly transformative for Wrexham.

“The UK Government arrived to the party late, posed for photo opportunities, dangled a carrot of further investment but has once again failed to deliver.

“While there may be an opportunity to bid a third time, all the uncertainty surrounding the so-called ‘levelling-up’ process is extremely unhelpful. Key partners remain focused on the Project and the Tory UK Government should stop toying with our city if it isn’t willing to step up to the plate.”
