Several reports have surfaced over the last 72 hours over the future of BHS, with the BBC reporting today the company could enter administration as early as tomorrow.

11,000 jobs are under threat across the UK with 164 possibly under threat, including the large Wrexham store.

On Friday Retail Week reported that administration was possible by 5pm that day, however at the time BHS chief executive Darren Topp says: “No administrators have been appointed. BHS is not going into administration. It is business as usual” saying he was ‘bemused’ by speculation.

Late last night (Saturday) the usual national front pages emerged The Sunday Times ran a story saying the chain was due to ‘fall into administration’ this week with all 164 stores under threat.

Lunchtime today the BBC are reporting they “could file for administration as early as Monday threatening 11,000 jobs”.

One hope appears to be a takeover by the Sports Direct group for some of the stores and business however there is a £300m pension deficit that would need to be taken on by any buyer.

Last month we reported how the town’s store was under threat as rents negotiations were taking place with various landlords to try and trim costs for the company.

Wrexham’s BHS store is on the corner of Henblas Street which has seen several units go empty, with the Post Office also saying they are moving out to WH Smiths in a few weeks time.
