On Saturday we received reports of an incident on Wheatsheaf Lane in Gwersyllt involving ‘armed police’, however details of what occurred are scarce.

At around 4pm the police helicopter was seen hovering over the Gwersyllt area. Helicopter crews confirmed they were in the area at that time and said it was in relation to a “Vehicle search in Wrexham” adding “Vehicle located and stopped by local officers.”

One eyewitness told us that they had seen ‘armed police’ outside a shop on the Wheatsheaf Lane around that time, and another resident has told they saw a car being stopped and ‘furiously’ searched by police.

We have spoken to North Wales Police who have told us there are no reports of firearms or armed police on Wheatsheaf Lane on Saturday, no any incidents that appear to be related to this.

One person tweeted us the following on Saturday:
