Hundreds of trees planted at ‘Tiny Forests’ project at Wrexham primary school
Hundreds of trees have been planted at a Wrexham primary school thanks to the help of pupils and volunteers.
Bro Alun, in Gwersyllt, is one of four sites selected in the county borough to have been selected to become home to a ‘Tiny Forest’ in a bid to boost biodiversity.
Tiny forests are dense, fast growing native woodlands, that are usually around the size of a tennis court.
They not only help boost biodiversity by providing a home for wildlife but also help people connect and learn about nature.
Wrexham Council has secured nearly £160,000 of funding to create Tiny Forests at four sites across the county borough.
So far hundreds of trees have been planted at Ysgol Bro Alun thanks to the help of children and volunteers.
A forest school area has also been incorporated, where the children will learn about the natural environment while having fun in the woodland area.
School packs will also be made so that schools can integrate them into their curriculum.
All these materials will be made bilingual with the help of Welsh medium schools so that they are available for all schools to use.
There are also plans to have further sites in Cefn and Caia Park.
