With the nights starting to draw in and winter fast approaching, North Wales Police are urging residents to secure their homes.

During this time of opportunistic burglars can target properties that can look unoccupied.

NWP Wrexham Rural has released several tips which can help keep your property secure throughout the winter.

  • Lock all doors and windows- even when at home
  • Use visible deterrents and security- think visible cameras or even just a sticker to say that cameras are in operation. Many burglars tend to avoid houses where an intruder alarm has been fitted
  • Don’t leave keys in hiding places such as under doormats – it’s the first place a burglar is likely to look
  • Leave a light on- signal someone is at home by keeping a light on, or use a timer if you won’t be in. Also consider installing outdoor lighting too.

If you see anybody acting suspiciously in your area, you can report it to North Wales Police via the live webchat. Alternatively you can contact police anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
