Wrexham’s new prison – HMP Berwyn – has been shortlisted for a trio of prestigious property awards.

The prison, which welcomed its first inmates last week, has been shortlisted for three categories in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards, Wales.

The awards celebrate some of the most inspirational developments in land and construction across the region.

24 buildings across Wales have been shortlisted into six categories – Building Conservation, Commercial, Community Benefit, Design Through Innovation, Regeneration and Tourism and Leisure. There is also an award for Project of the Year.

HMP Berwyn, which cost £250 million to build, has made the shortlist for the Regeneration, Community Benefit and Design Through Innovation categories.

Moneypenny’s new headquarters on the Western Gateway in Wrexham has also been shortlisted for the Commercial category.

The call-handling company moved to its state-of-the-art office space in September 2016 – with the headquarters boasting its very own treehouse and pub.

Designed to be the ‘happiest workplace in the UK’, the headquarters reflects the company’s growth. The building is able to accommodate up to 1,000 staff, supporting the company’s plans to create an additional 500 jobs over the next few years and double its client base by 2018.

In February 2017 Moneypenny announced they had been placed 4th in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list.

The winners of this year’s RICS Wales Awards will be announced at a ceremony on April 27th.
