Door staff at clubs and pubs in Wrexham are to wear newly designed hi-viz jackets to help create a calmer atmosphere and better impression at venues in the town.

Members of the licensing trade proposed a move away from the orange jacket worn by the door staff as it was seen as dated and could even be giving the wrong impression of the venue to potential customers.

Door staff play a key role in ensuring a safe environment in the night time economy and it is important that they are easily identifiable to assist their colleagues, police and members of the public.

Working closely with North Wales Police and the council’s licensing team through the Nightsafe Forum, licensees and security firms operating in Wrexham town centre piloted various designs of high visibility jackets over a number of weekends.

Although the new jackets are dark blue the high visibility strips are easily identified and the pilot scheme received positive feedback from the police and CCTV operators.

David McCarrolll, General Manager of Liquid/Envy said: “As a reflection on how safe Wrexham town centre has become over the last few years it’s nice to see that all the Nightsafe members have agreed to change the effective, but out of date orange luminous security jackets, to a more conservative dark blue with reflective strips.

“This will only add to the excellent experience that Wrexham town centre delivers for the night time economy on a night out.”

Inspector Paul Wycherley said: “In my view it is vital that security staff are easily visible to anyone needing assistance. The new jackets achieve that aim with the addition of looking smart and raising the profile of those who perform this important role.

“I am pleased that all agencies agreed on the new style; police, Wrexham Council and licensees.

“This is further evidence that in Wrexham town centre there really is a one-team approach.”
