Improvement works on ‘old-fashioned’ public toilets in Wrexham Town Centre are set to be completed next month.

The public toilets on Henblas Street have been closed for several months while work modernising the facilities has taken place. However earlier this week it was confirmed that the toilets will reopen at the start of August.

Improvement works on the facilities were approved by Wrexham Council’s Executive Board last year as part of a number proposals to upgrade the town centre’s public toilets.

Plans were later put forward to modernise the ‘old-fashioned’ facilities on Henblas Street.

Previously the Henblas Street facilities have provided female only toilets. However when the complete the facility will provide male and female toilets, a disabled toilet and an attendant room / small cleaners room.

There will also be the introduction of a 20p fee to use the toilets.

Previously there have been concerns raised regarding anti social behaviour in public toilets in Wrexham, with some complaints also made regarding the overall cleanliness of the facilities.

As a result a cleaner/attendant will also be appointed to staff the Henblas Street conveniences in a bid to deter anti social behaviour at the toilets.

Speaking about the upgrading the the facilities, Town Centre Manager Amanda Davies said: “It will be a nice facility and there will be an attendant in place. There has been a request for a number of years for new toilets

Town Centre Forum Chairman Nigel Lewis added: “It’s very positive news, this is a significant investment. They are first class and done in-keeping with the listed building status. I think they will be a great asset.”

Once work at Henblas Street is complete, it is likely that the public toilets on the Waterworld Car Park will be demolished.
