Gresford house fire after suspected lightning strike

Update: Local councillor Jeremy Kent has given some more detail as part of a wider update to his evening…

What an eventful evening…
As I joked about the storm, shortly after the alarm was raised that a house had caught fire following a lightening strike!
After hot footing it across the village the resident was thankfully being led away and went for care at a friend’s house not too far away. They were understandably shaken, but in good hands.
My praise and thanks to the emergency services who attended (and are still present) to deal with the incident.
After making sure all was in hand, I attended the Candle Lighting I mentioned and lit a candle in memory of the 266 men who died in the Gresford Mining Disaster on behalf of the village.
While there I’d had a missed call from North Wales Police as there had been a mains water burst on Pant Olwen. I’ve just finished (several calls) logging this with the water authority. They will be dealing with this on their emergency timescales.
So. Fire, flood… just short of a swarm of locusts!
I understand the internet is down across the village, that I’ve not taken up and suggest residents call their service provider.
Remember: The memorial service will take place at the Gresford Memorial in Pandy at 11am tomorrow.
Stay safe everyone, now to get some down time.
Cllr Jeremy Kent.

A section of Chester Road in Gresford is closed this evening as fire crews tackle a house fire.

It is believed the fire started following the earlier storm and lightning strike.

Multiple fire crews are in attendance.

Local residents have also said there was a power outage due to the storm and strikes.
