Why you should put your faith in them – Wrexham’s MP hopefuls want your vote!

Wrexham.com for people living in or visiting the Wrexham area

Candidates looking for your support have been invited to share their views on a range of issues.

As part of our election coverage ahead of the poll on Thursday we asked all candidates a range of questions, with a theme based collection from all candidates below. You can also read individual answers to all the questions here on our Election 24 page, plus links to party manifesto, supplied bios for candidates and links to find out where exactly your polling station is!

Question: It feels trust in politics is at an all time low. How will you rebuild that trust, and why should voters put their faith in you?

National scandals and clown celebrity politicians, here and abroad, clearly don’t help, but I don’t believe that’s why trust in politics is low.

Politics is meant to represent the people and create a system where the people can thrive. People are not thriving, therefore politics has let the people down.

I’ve been a voter much longer than I’ve ben a candidate and I can sympathise with anyone who feels cheated, misled, or forgotten.

As a voter you may look at a politician and fail to see yourself reflected. As a voter you may be in a position where your expectations in life, education, health, income, and happiness are way too low and it’s not your fault.

The only way that trust is rebuilt is if the communities in our nation get better, get fairer, and get more hopeful. I think a vote for The Green Party would help that change by being honest with the problems faced and ambitious with the changes required. However, each vote is precious to each voter, and I’ll end this answer by trusting each voter to give their vote to the candidate and Party who most reflects themselves.

Sincerely, regardless who you vote for Wrexham, I wish you every success and happiness in the future.

I would hope to lead by example. In the public positions that I’ve held as a Community Councillor, Borough Councillor and School Governor, I’ve tried to put the interests of the community first.

I believe that trust in politics is low, because the connection between politicians and the people they are elected to serve has been lost. If elected, I will keep in touch with Wrexham residents through regular newsletters and surgeries and by making myself accessible to the people who elected me.

Restoring the trust and faith in politics and our democracy is important to me. Whilst not perfect, politics is everything and everything is politics. It is how we make things happen and how we will improve the future for Wrexham and beyond. Part of the reason I am standing as a candidate is that I feel as let down as many others and I want to work to fix it.
Restoring trust requires leadership. Should the people of Wrexham elect me as their MP then I will always be open and honest with them. I will consult and listen across the whole constituency – working with communities, organisations, businesses, other elected representatives, and the council. I will be accessible with an office presence in the centre of Wrexham as well as holding regular surgeries and public meetings across the constituency and communicate regularly via social media. I will do and deliver what I promise to.

Trust in politics is low and for good reason. For too long now we have been represented by the same two parties going backwards and forwards and nothing changes. We see the same old broken promises time after time. We build up trust by doing. We do what we say we are going to do, we are active and we represent residents as we say we will. Through my time as a county councillor I think I have proven that I am someone who will do.
I want to truly represent the people’s views, to advocate for Wrexham and all the residents of this constituency in Westminster. I am home grown, born and bred Wrexham. I am proud of our town and it’s where I am choosing to raise my own family. My family live here, my friends live here, it’s my home town – it matters to me what happens here and so I would give my all to represent us. People are fed up, people are ready for change and I really believe I can deliver that real change.

No response to our Q&A has been received.

I am not a career politician. I was a single mother on benefits and, prior to being MP, I worked as a nurse, social worker and was a small business owner. I know how hard life can be. That is why I got into politics, because I didn’t see anyone like me who understood the issues I faced.
All politicians, regardless of party affiliation make mistakes. They are humans; however, I sympathise with people not knowing which party is telling the truth but I hope constituents will judge me on my track record.
People may not agree with everything I have done or voted on, but I have always put Wrexham first and fought for our people, our businesses and our communities at the highest levels of Government. If the people of Wrexham re-elect me on July 4th, I will continue be a champion for Wrexham and everyone who lives here.

I am a man of honesty, integrity and independence of mind, and putting myself forward to serve all the people of Wrexham.
You may not agree with everything I have said in these questions but these are my beliefs and I will never forget : one man’s right is another man’s wrong.
