A former building society is set to be converted into a coffee shop after plans were given the go ahead.

In May, Wrexham.com reported that an application had been lodged with Wrexham Council proposing a change of use for 1-2 High Street.

The building has sat vacant for several years since the former occupant, Nationwide, relocated to a larger premises in the city centre.

Plans to bring the building back to life have now been approved via a delegated decision by David Fitzsimon, the chief officer for economy and planning at Wrexham Council.

According to the application submitted in May the cafe would have 22 seats inside and ‘desserts, various pastries, hotdogs and waffles would be prepared on site’.

It adds that ‘consumption of hot drinks and food will be both on-site and out’.

Interior changes only are proposed with a shop sign fitted to the exterior.
